Let No Man Despise Thy Youth pt 4
We have come to the climax of the series Let no man Despise Thy Youth. We were able to establish many salient points from part one to part three and if you have not read those I will advise you to do so. Here are the links part one, part two, part three.
This is perhaps the most crucial aspect of this series and I will ask you to take what you are reading serious and also put them into practice as soon as possible.
The principles that you will be learning in this post will outlive you, if you practice them carefully they will be part of the best things that you will leave behind for your children.
When we talk about inheritance what often comes to the mind is houses and cars. But you will be learning in this post that an inheritance is more that physical things, and that the respect that you earn in your lifetime can outlive you for many years.
8. Integrity. This is one of the qualities that is missing in our world today. Integrity has become a very scarce commodity.
This decay in our social system is largely due to the fact that the mainstream media, the political and economic systems and even the academic system rewards individuals who possess dubious characters.
These individuals are held in high esteem as hero's and models whom the younger generation seeks to pattern their life after, hence the continuation of this societal menace.
Integrity is a priceless commodity and when you are in possession of it, those around you will have no choice but to accord you the respect that you deserve.
Another thing to note here is that integrity is not cheap. The price for living a life of integrity has more than doubled, howbeit, it's effect remains the same.
Choosing to live a life of integrity will put you on the spotlight and bring you in direct confrontation with people who have become victims of the age and time that we live in. You will look like an outcast, an alien however, let this be your guiding light
a good name is better than silver and gold so is living a life of integrity better than riches and choice posesisons.
The respect that you get from living a life of integrity is one of the assets that you will leave behind for your children, and for your children's children. Therefore every investment in this direction is a worthwhile investment.
9. Strive for For Excellence. There is nothing inspiring about a mediocre life. Striving for excellence is not about pursuing material things, it has nothing to do with living am extravagant life or pretending to be who you are not.
Striving for excellence is about setting high standards for yourself, it is about imposing stringent guidelines for your life and not waiting for external supervision.
It is about doing the best with what you have, giving the best when you can and taking personal responsibility for the outcome of your life.
If you were the manager of a company and you had two category of workers to oversee, the first category comes to work on time, rarely complains or give excuses, and closes late. The other category of workers always come late to work, complains about nearly everything, gives flimsy excuses, and often leave the office during work hours.
If you were to retain and even promote anyone, it will be difficult to consider any of the workers in the second category.
Striving for excellence is doing your due diligence in everything and at all the times. It is doing whatever your hand finds to do with your strength and with your heart
Life has no place for the lazy nor do people accord respect to the sluggard.
Striving for excellence is about doing better than you did yesterday, surpassing the previous standards that you set for yourself and reaching for new heights, always outdoing yourself and setting the pace for others to follow.
10. Invest In Others. Loyalty is the reward for the investment you make in the life of others.
If you ever desire to be respected by those around you, then you need to start today to invest in their lives.
You don't need to have every thing in the world before you can consider investing in the life of those around you. A little smile here and there will go a long way to lift someone's countenance. Some of your old clothes will be very much appreciated by someone that lives next door.
Don't always be at the receiving end. You need to understand that life doesnt revolve around you. You are not blessed when you receive you are blessed when you give, however, the biggest blessing is that your giving will serve as an extension of God's love to that person.
There are countless ways to invest in the life of others, however if you have chosen to live a parasitic life, you will not be able to see beyond yourself and you will not have the motivation to be the source of the smile on someone's face.
The currency for purchasing the loyalty of those around you is to invest in their life. Do it without expecting to be rewarded. Do it without a sense of entitlement. Do it when you feel like it and when you don't feel like it. Do it because you have to not because they deserve it. Do it not expecting to be appreciated.
And someday, when you least expect, you will be rewarded but beyond the reward you will have purchased their loyalty.
They will be willing to go a thousand miles just to reciprocate your kind gestures.
Note, not everyone that you invested in will remember to reward you, however, those who do will not only seek to reward you, they will commit their to you and defend you and what you represent as an extension of their gratitude.
Start today, in any way you can, put a smile on someone's face. Do it the next day and the day after. Make it a part of your daily routine. And see the seeds of your decision blossom and bear fruits that outlive you.
